The research and development program utilises an outstanding advisory team of consultants to facilitate the continued advancement of Myora’s genetics.

The program has carried out multiple projects, including the use of genomic testing for improvements in meat quality, carcass quality and animal health, as well as a range of nutritional studies to ensure that the genetic potential of the Myora genotype is fully achieved and supported.

Myora’s sows are renowned for their milking ability. Customers have seen commercial benefits from significant improved benchmarking results from Myora’s genetics. The future of pig production is captured from the ability of the piglets to survive and thrive, which Myora’s genetics allow this from our large birth weight and incredible weaning weights and piglet growth potential.

Geneticist Dr. Rex Walters

Myora has long recognised the importance of seeking expert guidance and established a strong relationship with world leading geneticist Dr Rex Walters. For over 20 years Rex has advised and audited Myora’s genetic programs facilitating consistent performance, improvement, and innovation. 

Rex studied Animal Science at Imperial College (University of London), followed by research degrees (Master of Philosophy and a Doctorate) in pig genetics. After a career in research and with the multi-national, Unilever, Rex now operates an independent consultancy, Livestock Genetics Ltd., as well as a key adviser to several international organisations including the British Pig Association, the UK governments, and the European Commission in Brussels. 

As a consulting geneticist, Rex Walters has utilised his extensive knowledge and experience in pig production and genetics to support Myora’s genetic program. Rex recognises the unique benefits of Myora’s philosophy of breeding success with the complementary attributes of both science and the art of breeding, thus acknowledging that whilst genetics play a pivotal role in achieving progress, excellence also includes soundness, longevity, robustness, and structure.

Myora’s team support genetic partners by ensuring programs promote maximum herd productivity, ease of management, and satisfaction throughout the whole chain experience.

Myora’s support programs include tailored genetic advice coupled with on-farm training along with genotype specific nutritional and production management strategies.

Customer support is delivered by genetic conferences, prompt technical support and on-farm visits.

Myora values and recognises the importance of quality management systems and has held AS/NZS ISO9001 certification since 1996 being the first farm in Australia to achieve certification.

Myora incorporates Quality Management into all aspects of its operations, ensuring that all products, services, and processes meet the highest of standards. Myora also holds the Australian Pork Industry Quality Assurance Program (APIQ) certification.
